Post 5231 Ladies Auxiliary has been in existence since the Post was created. Working side-by-side with Post Members, community traditions have been created and cherished in the Mancos Valley since 1946-- Easter Egg Hunts, St. Paddy's Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinners, Bicycle Safety Rodeos, Christmas Elves who help stuff Santa's Sack for the Community Christmas Party.
Since 2006, our Ladies Auxiliary has been active with Soldiers' Angels Projects. Over 50 backpacks filled with comforts: clothing, toiletries, books, puzzles and games, a global pre-paid phone card and a handcrafted Blanket of Hope have been sent to wounded soldiers at combat hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most recently, we have extended our project to include Ladies of Liberty and Adopt a Unit with packs specifically for our female soldiers, and a special Christmas Treat Shipment to a group of Medics in a remote unit in Iraq

Our Ladies sponsor a flag project in which we embroider the names of veteran loved-ones, in memory of or in honor of, a soldier and their branch of service to the binding of a flag which is flown on a street corner or sign post in Mancos on every military holiday or special day for military recognition. In teaming with the Post flag crew some 100 flags are flown throughout Mancos from dawn 'til dusk, giving a special signature of Patriotic Pride to our little community.
During Mancos Days, our ladies elect a pioneer queen from the community, to reign over the festivities. This year's queen will be our 52nd. We honor the queen with a reception on Friday of Mancos Days (the last weekend in July). She rides in a horse-drawn carriage at the head of the parade, followed by a float bearing past pioneer queens, and all are treated to a sumptuous lunch in the park. Each year the Ladies Auxiliary members create a magnificent quilt with representations of all the past and current queens to raffle off as part of our fund raising for youth projects and community service.
Our Auxiliary recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. We received our charter on April 7, 1951.
